Conference 2019 set out a progressive and aspirational agenda for our industry, with insights on issues such as equality and diversity, transparency and accountability and the impact they have had. 

Trust emerged as one of the key discussion topics of the day, with commentators including Keith Weed, Tess Alps and Philip Collins setting a challenge to the industry to become positive agents of change.

Trust in advertising is under threat. ISBA is involved in a cross-industry project with the Advertising Association and the IPA to tackle this challenge.  

 

How can brands get their customers to trust their advertising again? 

Last year ISBA called on everyone in the industry to be more accountable and acknowledge their role in the advertising ecosystem.  

 

12 months later, against a backdrop of increasing ad fraud, fake news and brand safety scandals, accountability is more important than ever.  

Our industry faces increasing criticism that advertising does not represent the diversity of contemporary society.    

 

Studies have shown having diverse teams producing work which reflects a diverse customer base leads to greater business success.  

Marketers need comparable data to know how to allocate their media spend, but joined up audience measurement seems a long way off. 

Assessing the performance of a campaign is essential in justifying budget but brands are still working out how effective their advertising is.
